My overall experience at uni has been interesting. At first it was hard adapting to the change from high school to uni but now its great. The lecturers I have had so far are all knowledgeable ad make me want to learn more about the subject. The subjects themselves are interesting and appear mostly to be relevant if I wish to pursue a career in business. All people I have come across appea friendly and ready to help. I love the atmosphere of UTS as it is in the city. The classrooms are mainly all well furnished and are pleasant to be in. Darling Harbour is only 10 minutes walk which is nice. The different clubs and sociities present at UTS is great because it gives an opportunity for virtually all hobbies and passions to be explored by the students. Also the different events eg multicultural day encourage participation and help to blend everyone together as a community. I like that everyone treats you as an adult ie that it is your responsibility rather than 'making' you do work as was the case in high school. UTS is fairly close to transport and hence I find it easy to get to. Overall my first year at UTS has been great and I look forward to my next two years being just as good if not better.
I applied through UAC to get into my course. It was kind of stressful when I was trying to study for the HSC while at the same time attempting to determine what my UAI would be and ind a course corresponding to that. However once I decided it got pretty simple. The open days and such at the different universituies really helped in giving information about the range of courses on offer as well as allowing a look at the actual university. This I found particularly helpful as on an open day I talked to some studnets who were studying a Bachelor of Business as well. This gave a good insight into the course which is always good. I was pretty lucky to get my first preference to get into UTS but I think that the course i'm doing had a fairly high UAI because it was high in demand. I would recommend future students to not only make a list of the different courses at the different universities that they'd like to attend but to also have a back-up plan incase you don't get into the coure. There are always alternative pathways such as doing a similar course then transfering in as some of my friends have done. I guess overall my advice would be to have a clear picture of the what course you want to do and at what university then work towards it.
There are some scholarships at UTS but they are mainly for either high academic prowess or for disadvantaged groups. As I fall into neither categories I don't have much experience with them. However I do know that most UTS courses have HECs support which ishow i'm paying for my course.
I have enjoyed my course thoroughly so far and look forward to the next 2 years. It has been challenging but rewarding. The majority of my subjects have been good value for money for me in particular accounting and economics as I plan to major in them. However there are other subjects such as MPO which I personally viewed as a waste of time. However overall the subjects for the first yera which are the core subjects are pretty well rounded and offer a good insight into what majors can be chosen in the course as well as basic business concepts. Also what I enjoy about the subjects is the mix of theory and practical work with problems being applied to things that we can encounter in life. This helps to understand and learn the concepts. The lecturers and tutors have all been immensely helpful in understanding the subject and have all brought some experience into the subject which makes it all the moe interesting.
My experience of life outside uni has been great. As I have mentione previously UTS is located 10 minutes from Darling Harbour which makes it a geat place to go to for lunch breaks and such with friends. Also the Glasshouse and the Loft uni bars have a nice atmosphere and offer good food. UTS has good technology facilities with computer labs located virually everywhere. However the one thing that UTS does not have is lots of grass and places to sit outside but once again being in the city allows you to find other places to relax. The fact that it is not in the middle of nowhere is great because it means that after class you can aways catch up with your friends without having to trek to find somewhere! I live at home about an hour away from UTS so I am unaware of the accommodation available. I do know that UTS has a housing centre that helps people to fins accommodation if needed. Yes it is possible to find part-time work as hours are flexible and you can model them to suit your own needs.
Yes I do beleive my job prospects have increased as a result of my studying at UTS as it is a well-reknowned university and its Business course is highly recognised. Also there appear to be many links between UTS and many larhe businesses as there are always career days and such which help to establish career links.
