I spent five years at UC (university of Canberra) and I think those years were one of the best days of my life. UC gave me the best environment to study lots of great friends knowledge and skills that I use everyday and many sweet memories. After graduating last year I miss university so much that I am planning to start my postgraduate studies next year and my choice will always be UC.
I applied for both UC and ANU (Australian National University) through UAC (University Admission Centre) and got accepted for both very easily. However I chose to study at UC.
There were scholarships available at UC which you would need to satisfy certain criteria for. UC also offers common wealth supported places (previously called HECS) for domestic students which I took advantage of. In addition UC provided short term loans for students at a very low interest rate.
I studies bachelor of Commerce at UC with a Professional Accounting Major. I think it is one of the best courses UC offers because it gives you more options and choice. It is a very broad course with Sneak peek of different corners of commerce in the first year to see which area you enjoy the most you are good at and would like to complete your major and minor in. It can lead to many exciting careers in accounting economics management banking and finance marketing to name a few. The I found lectures and tutorials were very interesting and lecturers and tutors at UC do a good job making them fun interesting and easy to understand. Lecturers and tutors are professional helpful and very approachable at UC. UC being a small university most of the lectures are small sizes almost like another tutorial this way lecturers know almost all the students and can help students more.
UC offers a great balanced life style. While completing your studies at UC you do not miss out on social life. There are plenty of social clubs to be part of you meet lots of great people from all around the world and there are always lots of concerts and exciting functions to go to (like stonefest multicultural night Thursday concerts at the UCbar). In addition UC’s small campus makes you feel very much at home cause everyone know each other and you don’t feel lost in a big huge place with all the strangers walking around you.
My job prospects have increased as a result of studying at UC. I am working at the moment in a field related to my studies with one of the top companies in Australia. There are a lot of job opportunities for students even while studying commerce. A word of advice it is very helpful for your career if you commence work in the field you are studying from second year of your degree cause by the time you graduate you will have the work experience you would move to up the level and the organisation may even help you with your study costs.
