University is all about freedom. It is a place to totally be yourself through the courses you choose the people you meet and the activities you participate in. The choice of subjects is very broad making it so easy to find a degree best suited to you. Spending time with mates is the best thing about uni life becasue you meet people who are like minded and share similar interests. University isn't just an education its a great experience.
The University of Canberra used the UAI entry system for my course. Because it wasn't a 'brainy' ubject the UAI cut-off was only 65. The university made it really easy for anyone who wanted to do graphic design were able to do so. I havent heard of anyone being refused entry due to a full course so graphic design is easy to get into. Make sure that it is the course you want because getting in might be easy but the work is hard!
I wasnt aware of any scholarships leading into university except for Billy Blue. I didnt look into it because my UAI estimate was high and i thought i would get in without any difficulty.
Graphic Design is fantastic. The people and tuotors all have a real passion for the subject and the subject matter is relevant and interesting. Design doesnt leave a huge dent in your pocket compared to other courses but it does add up in incidental costs (such as printing binding materials etc). If design is what you love dont hesitate! All the people you will meet love it too.
UC has agrea open campus. It is clean and refreshing and I like nothing more than to relax on the grassy concourse with my friends between classes. The worst thing about the uni is its abundance of broken vendig machines! Otherwise the facilities available are great. The accomodation is a little daunting... it is a bit of luck that you get a clean group of people who tidy up after themselves. But if you keep clean and quiet uni is a pretty good place to live.
In design if you have a degree you can get a job without too much difficulty. It helps that there is a design shortage in Australia currently but the Bachelor of GD is a well respected and recognised degree in the field.
