This year was my 1st year of UNI as I completed year 12 last year and UNI experience has so far been a blast! It is completely different to high school in a good way you are independent and free to do whatever you want no one to tell you off about the wrong shoes jewellery etc. You are really treated as an adult the lecturers and tutors talk to you like you're on the same level as them not as a higher authority (unlike most annoying high school teachers who abuse their role). In terms of workload it is a lot more than high school but it doesnt feel like a lot more I think its because you are in a more relaxed environment and theres no one hounding you about due dates. Another thing that i found really different was that everything is online Monash UNI uses a system called blackboard where you can access all your lecture notes lecture recordings (yes lectures are recorded for those of you unwilling to wake up!) assesments and other relevant subject informations messages from lecturers etc. so you really have to regularly check it so you dont fall behind. In terms of friends and meeting new people UNI is an awesome social place it is so easy to make friends with peole in and outside your course as you have so many opportunities to do so. There are also many social clubs that you can join which is another way to meet people I personally didnt but still made plenty of friends but its an option. There are also so many social events regularly being hosted by the student faculty and the ALWAYS involve drinking hehe such as balls cocktail nights poker nights after exam parties etc. and there is also a bar on campus for those of you who wants a pot or two between classes. To sum it up UNI experience has been awesome Its the most fun ive had being educated there are so many interesting people and you are really treated as an individual and adult. There's so many more good and encouraging things I can say about UNI life but why dont you guys come try it out for yourself so you experience it 1st hand.
I originally wanted to do Med but my UMAT scores wasn't high enough so i decided to do a Bachelor of Science and then hopefully do post. grad med. My enter score was quite high so it wasnt difficult getting into my course. The selection process was all done through VTAC and if you dont get your preference its not the end of the world because a lot of people i know got into their first preference and hated it and changed UNI is flexible like that. Dont have the point of view that If i dont get into your first preference that your future is screwed there are many ways around transfers. When selecting your course make sure you dont choose it simply because it sounds smart or respectable ask around and people you know doing that course because they give the best perspective of it.
There are many scolarship and bursary offers available for the different faculties and individual status you just need to look for it on your UNI website. My current contacth hours are >20 but i still have a part time job which is very helpful for weekly spending money and going out money which you will do more of once you're in UNI so yea UNI hours are flexible you are able to work a few days a week. Text books are expensive but there are plenty of copies in the library you can always use it saves you a few hundred dollars that way.
My course in a word is awesome. Its only my 1st year and i have learnt so much! Next year the subjects will be more specific and even more interesting. Lecturers and tutors are very friendly and helpful if you are in need of assistance and theyre all such nice and genuine people who truly enjoy their job and inspire you to become something unlike most your high school teachers who when teaching look like theyd rather be in jail. Yes the course is worth every cent of my hecs. I have never had so much fun being educated!
Monash UNI facilities are top notch the campus is huge everything is modern plenty of toilets chairs cafes restaurants banks etc. It is definetely possible to find part time work UNI is flexible that you can organise your own timetable to suit your need therefore you can fit in a part time job.
There are plenty of careers night during UNI where proffesionals who have graduated from your course come and tell their story but I havent personally been to any of them as I am thinking of doing a post grad study
