I liked the atmosphere at CMU and found the research atmosphere just perfect for me to complete my PhD program. The PhD programs here are one of the toughest courses among the universities in the US. So students coming here for PhD be prepared for research for the next 3-4 years.

I applied to this college for PhD and indeed very happy to have got an admit from CMU. I also applied for visa. The procedure from my country was easy.

For PhD’s main emphasis is research. You should also be careful while choosing advisor since he has a major role to play in your PhD work. Initially three courses in the first semester and research. Then in the next semester two courses and research. The qualifiers will be tough and require in depth preparations. PhD's are fully funded and in my department there is funding for MS students also.

ratingYour life experience

The facilities are good and cater to the needs of the students. The best part is my department organizes canoe and ice skiing trips which are so much of fun and enjoyment. The student clubs are very active on campus and hold many sessions like game nights etc. The accommodation depends on the locality. Normally students stay in Squirrel hill or Shady Side neighborhoods. These are supposedly safe places.
