I am happy with my stay at the university; it's been a wonderful experience to come here. As I am already a Petroleum Engineer things have been pretty easy for me as I already aware of the basics of the game. What I really like about the university is how organized each and every thing is which amazes me as one need not waste time on getting things done. My advice would be to get your basics about the courses to take and learn the language as it's important because English is the only language that Americans speak. My only advice to incoming students would be to have a systematic approach towards achieving one's goal, and be regular in studies rather than cramping at the last moment.
I think it was pretty easy as I had a background in Petroleum Engineering, and also because my grades, internships, GRE, Toefl were all up to the mark. I applied on my own although I took help from seniors at college. Visa interview turned out be pretty easy why do you want to go to America and that's it pretty easy.
My courses were all graduate level, so they were challenging but I managed to do well as I had a background in Petroleum and also I worked throughout the semester. We had around 10hrs of lecture every week and professors and tutors were excellent in their approach of teaching, solving issues and problems etc.
Campus facilities are excellent right from transportation to lab usage to getting Xerox copies to food, gym etc. I mean its USA nothing can be bad here! I travel to Newyork as I have lot of friends there during various breaks and weekends. We have a good time partying, shopping etc. My room rent is around 350$/month. There is a active student union where we celebrate lot of festivals and enjoy each others company.
Obviously no doubt they have increased tremendously, but considering the present circumstances they do look bleak. I am hopeful the economy rises to its normal pace by the time we finish our degrees so that chances of getting a job brighten. I will definitely be in touch with my fellow friends.
