Having a strong passion for Commerce, I chose to pursue my degree at Curtin. I love every minute of the Curtin experience. The needs of fellow Students have always been acknowledged, Teachers frequently do their utmost to provide students with quality enjoyable learning, the number of excellent facilities and services available to students are regularly increasing and every building of the Uni is reasonably spaced out so students easily know where to go. The physical structure of Curtin University is very well organized. The technological facilities available at Curtin Business School are highly impressive. I believe the limited student car parks are undeniably one of the major issues Curtin must tackle, these have to increase significantly per semester. I would advise future students to carefully consider the structure of the courses that they wish to undertake at Curtin. This can be obtained from the Curtin Online Handbook. Not all the units are available every semester so choose wisely! Read the unit outlines, get a feel for what you're about to take on. Curtin also has an amazing multicultural student base. Orientation Week (a week before the first week of semester) should definitely be attended as a lot of seniors help out the newbies in getting familiar with their new surroundings. Enjoy your Uni life, the amount of effort you put in (right from the start) will surely decide the amount of success you receive. All the best!
If you're a local student, as I am now after being here for a number of years, good results in High School Graduation should provide you with an adequate entry into Curtin. Your Year12 results provide and aggregate score and the average of such must match or beat the entry score, into your course of Uni study. I believe this system has changed a little recently
There are various scholarship and funding opportunities available at Curtin. Student Guild Centre shall direct all students to the respective department. There is also a Centrelink office (providing financial assistance) and the International Students Office can direct students to relevant departments that provide financial assistance.
Accounting & Information Systems is a double major. It's a very interesting degree at it looks at two reasonably different fields and finds an impressive connection too. Doing 4 units per semester, this semester I have 16hours altogether to attend University for lectures / tutes / lab sessions. I have found Lecturers and Tutors have always been very helpful. Whenever I have needed support from a study perspective, staff or facilities, they have always been readily available to assist me. I have previously seen a chart of courses and how expensive they can get. I believe my course was good value for money. Curtin has a reasonable flexibility to allow students to make changes to their courses and units early in semesters. Take this period, and opportunity, to clarify any queries you would have on your education with Curtin staff and lecturers.
Campus facilities available at Curtin are awesome. These included Banks, Hairdresser, Cafes, Library, Uni Tavern and Abacus (a large 23hour computer lab). The nearest city is Perth, about 20minutes drive away. The University has a fairly safe and peaceful culture, relating to the safe and peaceful West Australian lifestyle. From my experience, I found people are very friendly around Curtin. The best things to do were to enjoy Curtin events such as Beer Appreciation Night, Guild Ball, Semester Bash! I live close to the University with my family, so I did not have to worry about renting nearby. Part-Time work opportunities are generally available through the Careers department in Student Guild. The student union is worth signing up for, as soon as possible. The benefits are worth it. Students can attend Orientation Week before the semester starts to get information on many different societies and clubs that they can join. For Indians, DESI is a must! Regular events are organised by the Uni while Club DESI organises regularly Indian events.
I do believe my job prospects have increased as a result of my studies. Students can apply for jobs at any time during their degree. From what I've experienced - Employers tend to favor employing postgraduates yet undergraduates, and their raw potential, is also acknowledged by employers in this day and age.
