Having studied for several years as a part-time PhD student at the Department of Economics of the University of Exeter. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a first class education.
The different skills and knowledge offered by my two supervisors complemented each other perfectly and both always found time for important advice and encouragement. The facilities and resources are of top quality and the online distance access to data, journals and other resources is well organised and simple, saving precious time and money. I found the possibility of presenting my research at the annual post-grad conferences very useful; gaining experience at presenting but more importantly having the opportunity for feedback and comments from some of the department's internationally renowned members of staff, which allowed me to improve the quality of my research and even publish in high quality journals.
The administrative staff were always extremely efficient and supportive - often going out of their way to help me - as I was living abroad for most of the time of my studies, this was invaluable. Exeter has excellent resources and generally offers an environment which is conducive to achieving real research.
