I like the students in my class, it is very multicultural. In my class, there is equal number of students from different countries. We all speak in English and it helps in improving English also, I have made nice friends. You have to be very forward and outgoing over here if you want to succeed. If you become shy and if you are not social, then you will be left. My advice is that whatever you do, give it your best shot.
I came through IDP in phillipines who helped me get my student visa and also got me admitted in this college.
At the time when I was coming here, there was no scholarship, but after coming here the teachers tell us to do well in our assessments because, we can get scholarships. It is very very difficult for international students to come here as student and work and pay college fees. This will affect studies and also health. It is good to arrange finance by yourself.
I am studying Patisserie, I am assessed on my practicals, theory, class activation and also assignments. If you have basic computer skills then it is important because you can get some good points in your presentation, assignments. We not only learn to make pastries, cakes etc but also to promote our product. It is like marketing, so theory is important. We are trained at 5 star hotel, and this is very nice because we get feeling of working there. If we are good in studies, there is lot of opportunities in this field. The teachers are very nice.
There is quality teaching and also internet facilities. We have many kitchens to practice practicals. We also have small clubs. I live in the eastern side of the city. It is little far for me, because living in the city is expensive. Living outside is very peaceful. I don’t mind traveling 1 hour for my college but morning classes don’t let us sleep properly. I found work as kitchen hand because, pastry cooks need certificate once I finish this course, I will apply. There is still jobs available but you need to be good.
I will complete my diploma in patisserie and this will give me good opportunity to work in big companies. Many students study cookery but a little less study patisserie, there is more chance. But if you are very bad in studies and pracs then I suggest you to go to uni to do degree. More qualification means more opportunity.
