I have always been interested in business - I studied it throughout school and it was a toss up between ancient history at Cardiff and business at Plymouth - the course and to be honest the coast finally decided me. Living two minutes from the beach on the IOW was something I did not want to give up and as such Plymouth won through! I found the whole induction process very helpful in introducing me to university life - playing monopoly on the first day at the business school will be an experience I won't forget - never have I seen so many 'bosses' trying to be 'the boss'.

I really enjoyed the course especially in the last year - being able to gain practical experience during the graduate enterprise scheme. I think that the graduate enterprise scheme, arranged by Neil Brooks and run by Carol Whitby, was excellent and allowed me (I should say 'us'!) to put into practice the theory that we had learnt. I also enjoyed the units I chose to do on the side - French in the first year and Spanish in the second and final year. Strangely accounting was a high point! I have massive respect for the accounting team, Graham Clayton really helped! The languages department in the business school was really supportive and I'd also like to personally thank Neil Brooks for his help, understanding, support and encouragement. There were a few times when I was disappointed with certain aspects - mainly in the lack of feedback with some coursework. Generally though I would say that even in the units that I was disappointed with I came away learning something new.

The facilities at Plymouth are excellent - both the business school (although sometimes a little on the stuffy side!) and the central university library provided excellent places for study - the café at the top of the library - big thumbs up! Oh and the room next to it is an excellent secret study area for those who don't know and cram themselves in downstairs! Doing the Degree course has given me experience and learning in the most important ways. I learned a tremendous amount - possibly not all quantifiable but definitely self-learning - for example developing my interpersonal skills - which I believed to be of a high standard when I went to university - I can now see improved dramatically. I also think the experience has helped me to change my perspective on things and re-frame them to make problems into challenges and anxieties into excitement.

I decided to start my own business for two reasons - being in regular contact with pollutants in the sea as well as an increased knowledge of the state of our planet motivated my brother and I to create Rapanui - and also I am not into joining 'corporate land' - and being some middle manager of Milton Keynes homebase or some similar job - that is not my idea of being successful - no matter how much money was offered I wouldn't be interested in such a job.
