I faced transport problem coming and going from class to home and work. My advice to the students is make sure you know your way around and choose good location to live close to tafe or work. I enjoyed my time because our class was multicultural and students from all countries were together in one class. It was a nice experience overall. The TAFE is quite big too.
I came here directly through a representative of the TAFE who had come to India. I spoke to them about the process and the fees involved. They told me and I got my visa lodged and soon I was here in melbourne.
No, I did not receive any scholarships for my course. My parents funded me throughout my student life for the course fees.
The commerical cookery course is well in demand. Even today lot of students are studying it. I think this is the only industry where the students are increasing despite of the reccession. In my time, the teachers were fantastic and great chefs. We had fun in our class and also learned new things every day.
We have library, gym, cafe, restaurant, training kitchen, car park, book shop, internet, student mail, counselling etc. There were lots of facilities for the students here. I enjoyed living with my friends, we shared bills for shopping, food and groceries. Helped each other in times of crisis and unemployment. I have made good friends here both internal and local. Yes, it was easy to get a part time job about 2 year back, but now its getting more tougher.
Well, its still the same. I have applied for residency and meanwhile am on a bridging visa, so i can work full time. Yes, the course taught me everything, all the skills required to work in a kitchen. I am still in contact with my friends.
