I am a lawyer originally, and after working in public administration for ten years I felt it was time for a change. I do not have a lot of experience in finance, IT and marketing and decided to take an MBA to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to run a business, probably in the not-for-profit sector. I chose to study in the UK to get some international experience and improve my English.
I started my research on the internet and found that the UK Cabinet Office has approved five schools, including Glasgow, for their senior civil servants. I visited a couple and Glasgow convinced me from the beginning the atmosphere, the campus, the facilities here, everything. I also had a chance to meet some last year's students who were all very positive about the programme. What I appreciate most is the class size. There are only 35 of us, and we come from 14 different countries. The interaction is very enriching; the pressure of study brings us together while the staff have time for each of us as individuals.
It is a big decision to quit your job, go abroad and return to studying. I knew it would be hard and yet I feel free in a way at the moment, as a student, I am only responsible for myself and I am learning to live with some uncertainty about a future which will no doubt be enhanced by my MBA studies.
