Enjoyed the university experience.Clubs, student bodies and co curricular activities, campus food can be better. Professors, Course content, Infrastructure, Facilities ar good. If something seems to be difficult and takes too much time then there is an easier way to do it Learn to learn. In terms of courses, do not bite off more than you can chew. Take on a manageable load for the first semester so that you know what to expect from future courses.
This was the only admit I had. Got a reject from the other seven universities. Take GRE early and get done with everything as soon as you can. I was admitted in the second lot so was a bit stressed out. Visa process was painless. Travel experience was pretty good One stop flight to NY and then came to Pittsburgh with my sister.
The course was time consuming but very informative. Mostly structured very well. Force to learn the right way of doing things. The best parts were easy tests and only tests fundamentals. Lot of project work and projects were based on present day problems. We had 10 hours of lectures per week. Lecturers and tutors were very helpful. Make sure you brush up your computer skills and fundamentals. Learn to go and look for the answers and not expect it to be delivered to you. Use Google, libraries, and knowledge of other PhD students
Campus facilities could be more helpful in terms of housing for 1st semester and campus food. Everything else is pretty satisfying. People were friendly and helpful. Accommodation cost was $600 per month per head. Part-time work were Possible but not manageable.Student Unions are very helpful and fun. Good for networking. Societies for International Students were IGSA, GSA, EGO.Attended most of the events organized by EGO, GSA, IGSA and they are adequate. Obv, we have to have our own personal events.
Job prospects were Increased a lot by CMU name tag. Made some good friends and will always be in touch.I am part of the Alumni Assocation. There are job fairs and a lot of on campus talks, interviews and recruitment.
