I feel UCSD is a really good university but you have to grab onto the opportunities. Be active and make your way. The college offers a lot of opportunities for development of students.
I had to give the SAT 1, 2 and TOEFEL exams to get into UCSD. I took coaching classes from Princeton Review in Delhi. I got the F-1 students visa from the US Emabassy in Delhi. The visa interview wasnt that bad. I feel that they just want to make sure that the student has financial support and plans to come back after study. The tickets should be booked in advance. There is a lot of rush in September/August when most of the American Universities start their semesters. I flew by Air India. The airline did not offer a student fare. I landed at the LAX airport in California. It is a 1.5 hour drive from the airport to LAX. Two baggages, each weighing 25kgs is allowed on the airplane. I faced no immigration issues at the airport. My university did not offer any Meet and Greet service at the airport.
The scholarship offered from the state is mostly for the residents.
I am happy with the study structure. The professors are good.
I live on the on - campus apartments. The apartment has 4 single bedrooms and a common kitchen and bathroom. The lecture halls, libraries, sports facilities are good. Getting a job is the same, whether an international or local student on the campus. The college life is very balanced. People enjoy studying as well as partying. The weather is pleasant throughout the year. There are a number of societies for international students.
It Isnt that easy for the international students to get a job. There are many companies which dont want to sponsor the job visas.
