The college has not lived up to my expectation as what I had desired it to be from back home. Its an eye opener for me. There is not much social life too at college and also among the friends from my class because all are international students. We are not getting an opportunity to mix around with the locals. My advice to the students are that think many times before you make a decision in choosing the course and uni/college before you come here.
The enrolment process was easy but took around 5 months. I did not want to come here but after being convinced by an agent from my country, I thought it’s a lifetime opportunity because I was told of jobs being abundant and more earning potential. I had to show a lot of money to come here. I have left my family and children behind in my country to come and study here.
There is no scholarship at all. I was told of earning money and paying the fees, but reality bites, it is hard to do that.
The course as a whole is good but less days of classes. The system of education is completely different. The campus here is much smaller and teachers are more professional rather than friendly. However, I am satisfied by the teaching standard here, but its not exactly the scene as painted by my agent. We have 3 days classes. It did not live upto my expectation, but theres effort from the teaching side.
Library and internet, but the internet is a slight problem because it is expensive here. The living expense is high with rent and food. Living with friends in cheaper suburbs helps cut the costs a little but the fees take it all away. Finding a job has been very difficult to me in my case because of my English, as I was rejected in many places because of my low standard, I am now improving slightly. The place where I am living has many officers patrolling due to recent attacks on Indian students, but still working at late nights is still not safe around my neighbourhood. The only reason I am sticking to it is because my friends are already there and we together have leased a house and share bills.
Frankly, I don’t know if my job prospects have increased, but I cannot return to India empty handed and jobless. I will have to get a job, but the competition is now more tough with increasing number of students and global economic crisis. My aim now is to get a residency first, because I can then save money for I will no longer have to study in order to remain in Australia. Lastly, I would not recommend you to come directly to this institute because there are many good unis/tafe but they are expensive. However, if you have the money for your fees, then you can join good and expensive unis to get your degree. However, if you end up here in this institute, the overall teaching standard is still good, its not that bad. You will get your moneys worth compared to so many expensive institutes and tafes here.
