International orientation is very welcoming and tells you things to do and not to do to meet your goals. It helps you a lot.In terms of the study environment, Corvallis is a great town. It is a small college town which has no distractions. I like the availability of help here at OSU. People at OSU help you to understand things. The advisors are really helpful as well. If you have academic problem, they help to fix your schedule to support your academic achievement in OSU.I would advise you to be really open to explore. Don't stick to what you already know. Talk more and ask more. If you don't ask, you won't know. Go for your goal, and be the best you can be!
A very good family friend of mine came to OSU first and recommended to me that OSU is a very good school. I applied to OSU and got admission!
My favorite class is ANTH110, Introduction to cultural anthropology. I learned different culture all the world over, how they deal with things in their own way. Exams require that you be more creative and use your brain to answer, not the type that can be done with a direct answer from the textbook. It makes you think creative and know what you study. For example, organic chemistry class was the most creative class. We were given components and were required to create chemicals in our own way. For example, there are lots of ways to make coffee from different ingredients. Different ways of teaching help to make you understand. For example, extra credit and the use of a "clicker" for attendance was a first experience for me.
OSU gives each culture a chance to show and share its culture through events called "Culture Night". By getting into ICSP program, I met a wide range of people to show and share my culture. It was different from Ghana. I've learned the way to interact with people. I've learned that I need to open up. I've also become used to the taste of food here which used to be extremely spicy or sweet for me.
I believe that being able to have options to get help at OSU has helped me to shape my academic career. I met a great teaching assistant and academic adviser who has been one of the most helpful people. Advisors are the ones who support your whole academic study; they advise when and what to take in terms of classes, for example. I wasn't sure about what I could do with a major like chemistry, but now I know what I can do by being in the chemistry field.
