Academic advice - apply ahead of time, contact professors well in advance to project your interests and once you get admitted start working on things you wish to do.
I took GRE and TOEFL. Interesting thing is I got bored with these teaching institutions so did self Preparation. Student F1 Visa, interview was simple and plain. Getting tickets - god was hard to manage the agents and the prices, but it was ok. I took Qatar Airways. Experience was excellent. No, I didn't get any student fare. I flew from India to New York, then to Raleigh where the University is located. Baggage rules were 1 cabin bag, 2*23kgs luggage's allowed. I didn't face any immigration issues.Indian association "Maitri" members picked me up from airport.
TA/RA are usually offered, but hard to get them.
Happy to be here place wise and weather wise too. Lecture Halls are very good. Library is excellent with good books related to my subject.
I'm staying in off-campus apartment. Full sports facilities with a special sports center.
There is placement cell, which looks into job prospects. There is campus placement process. Work permit process is a bit cool as the degree obtained has good value. There is no alumni society as such I know.
