It all began in Montreal, where I took a Bachelor of Commerce at Concordia University. During my studies there I developed an interest in international business - and that brought me to Exeter. I really wanted to broaden my worldview and expand my knowledge, and the MBA in International Studies was the way to do it. And on the Exeter programme, 50 students came from more than 40 countries, so it was a truly international environment
The MBA I took at Exeter helped me gain the management skills and financial and legal understanding it takes to work for a truly international company.
Of course, my time at the Business School was a great experience in lots of other ways too. Exeter is a lovely city - and although the University is on a campus, with all the camaraderie and sense of community that brings, it doesn't feel in any way isolated. I'd recommend it to anyone. The standards of teaching and learning are very high, and it's a great place to make friends. I've stayed in touch with many people from those days, both socially and in business - some of my most important contacts come from then.
Completing the course has certainly launched me on an interesting path. My first position after leaving the Business School was on an investment banking programme at a Canadian bank, back in Montreal. A year later, I joined Citibank in Toronto, where I was responsible for Quebec-based clients - for their foreign exchange business and money market products. I returned to England in 2000, still with Citibank, and focused on foreign exchange sales for European corporate clients. Then in 2003 I started working with the 'electronic solution' desk. This was an exciting time, as e-commerce was really starting to develop quickly then. In 2004, building on my Citibank experience, I joined RBS to head their foreign exchange e-commerce sales to European corporates. I stayed there for four years, before joining Deutsche Bank earlier this year as Head of eCommerce Sales for the EMEA region. Together with my team here, I'm responsible for bringing new e-commerce solutions to clients across the whole region. My office is in London, but there's a lot of travelling - which I love. I'm using my knowledge of international commerce to develop long-term relationships with my clients, and to keep providing technology-based, tailored services. And I really do owe much of this to the MBA I took at Exeter. It helped me gain the management skills and financial and legal understanding it takes to work for a truly international company.
