I am building better study habits. It's helping me build connections with people' I'm losing the shy aspect, and I'm opening up. Iowa State allows me to learn not only about people in the world, but myself too. As the university says, it is an adventure and I'm finding myself in that adventure too
My counselor recommended that I look into Iowa State. The university has a good reputation in Puerto Rico. The engineering program is especially well-known. I started to research Iowa State and applied for admission. I was then offered a George Washington Carver scholarship, which is a renewable full-tuition scholarship. The George Washington Carver scholarship is a big reason why I came here.
It's been hard not being able to talk to my parents every day or having my closest friends here. Luckily I get along with my community adviser really well. He's also from Puerto Rico so I've been able to have a good friend here. I've also tried to stay close to my new friends here. My new friends are like my family since I'm so far away. It has been exciting' all the new changes. It gives me an opportunity to explore new facets of life, culture, and open myself to the world. Living in the residence halls is very fun. It's a very good community. Living in Martin Hall, I'm close to a lot of my friends who live in the Union Drive community. I'm also very close to my classes - the engineering buildings are just north.
