The best thing here in my case is work and college is both near my house at a walking distance. My friends are very helpful. There are lot of international students here studying so you can make friends here easily because everyone is new here at the start of the semester.
I always wanted to study abroad, it was like my dream. I applied all by myself but I didn’t know how the things worked and I had problems while applying for visa so I took some assistance from a consulting agency and they helped me out with my visa and getting enrolled in a course of my choice, they told about many unis and tafes which offered great courses, but price/fees is also an important factor which I need to consider.
There is scholarship advertisements but I didn’t apply for it. I have a feeling that it is very hard to get because if it was easy to get, everyone would have applied for it.
I am studying IT. Its a great course but requires lot of study too. Don’t think that if you study at the last minute that you will pass. There is no last minute here. There is lot of assignments that carry marks which are given every fortnights So if you miss classes, you wont do well and even fail. The tutors are very easy going but they demand some seriousness and hard work from us during our assignments.
I am working in Hospitality field. In fact its management, although I am an IT student. I was lucky that my employer chose me and gave me necessary training. The most important thing to have is confidence and speak fluent English and you can get work easily. Accomodation is also cheap here and I like it here. I haven’t joined any clubs but I do socialize with my classmates and hangout with them on weekends.
I think, its very important for me to get a part time job in IT field because that will help me in getting jobs later on. However, the place where I am working at present has offered me a full time position but that’s hospitality and management field. I sometimes wish that I had chosen hospitality instead of IT, but who knows there are still lot of hospitality students who haven’t got good jobs. End of the day, it depends on your luck to be called for an interview for a nice job, and also your confidence and fluency to impress there on.
