I have been trying to engage in social events that QUT EastWest provides for students as much as possible so that i can always meet new people including international students and local students. For instance, Language exchange program is one of the social programs which EastWest organizes to help building a relationship between international students and local students. In this program, you request for a language exchange partner to the EastWest and they arrange you a language partner who is interested in your first language. so I got a partner who is a local student and studying Japanese so that he could learn some Japanese from me and also i could speak with him in English so both of us got benefit. I suggest students who are wanting to study at QUT that they should take advantage of these sort of social events that QUT provides us as much as possible so that they can meet many people.
Firstly I am not a proper QUT degree student so i dont know how hard it is to get in. but my home university in Japan has a partnership with QUT so my home uni sends out a few students to QUT and QUT also sends a few students to my home uni every year. so I am the exchange student who was sent out from my home uni to QUT this year. To be an exchange student, I had to take four exams including listening, writing, reading, interview both in japanese and English and had to pass all of these tests. We had about 300 students who applied for taking these tests to get into this exchange program but only 20 of us passed everything and made to be an exchange student this year.
Don't know about this.
I'm studying Early childhood education but i can actually take whatever I want because I am only an exchange student and not getting any degree here. Units that I took in here would be transferred back to my degree that I am doing in Japan. So first semester, i took two units from Early childhood education course, one from social work course and the last one from educational elective course. For this sem, i am taking two from Early childhood, one from educational elective course. What I like about education faculty course at QUT is that they ask students to do practical assignment. Assignment is not usually just writing an essay but also interviewing teachers, visiting schools, observing children and stuff. There are also a lot of curriculum studies which allow students to learn how they are actually going to teach their specialized subject in the classroom.
transportation is not as convenient as in Japan. there are too many buses that go to different areas. what I like about Brisbane most is its weather of course. Its warm over the year. and also Brisbane is on east coast so you could always go to the beach! sorry dunno about work. I havent thought about getting a job here cos I am only here for 10 months.
of course its better to have degree because it means you are qualified person. but nowadays everybody has a degree so it might still not make it easier to get a job. I have seen a lot of people taking double degree or continuing their studies to get a masters degree to be more qualified and get higher possibility to find a job. After I have finished my course I am going back to Japan and finish my education degree and will be an English teacher in japan in 2 years.
