Singapore is an easy city to settle down in. It works with clockwork precision and getting familiarized with the place is easy. The facilities in JCU are good. Professors here are uniformly good and help out at all times. I would definitely recommend my institution to future students.
You are not required to write any entrance exam to get admission to the university. You need to satisfy certain pre requisites (like having a first degree, good communication skills, etc). IELTS or TOEFL is required for most students. VISA is required for all Indian students. Normally once admission is confirmed, the college will send a document from the Immigration department that allows you to enter the country and remain there for a month by which time the VISA is processed. Air fares are extremely reasonable especially from Chennai. Low budget airlines like Air India express and Tiger offer fantastic deals. The problem with low budget airlines is that not too much luggage is allowed. This can be a bit of a nuisance when youre travelling to the country for the first time, as you are likely to have a fair bit of luggage. I flew Air India and it was a short and convenient flight. A meet and Greet service is provided by the college. Students who want to avail of this service need to inform the college a couple of weeks in advance.
Facilities in college are good. It is a small but well equipped campus. Lecture rooms are spacious and there is a decent library. Most of the students are international and there is a huge Indian contingent. Professors are uniformly good and help out at all times.
Singapore is an expensive city and accommodation is likely to be one of the more expensive aspects of student life. Nevertheless it is easy to find hostels, paying guest accommodation or regular flats for rent. The college does not provide accommodation although they do have tie ups with certain rental agencies. They help you finding accommodation if you choose that option. Public transport is cheap and fantastic. Food is not too much of a problem as anything you want is available. The night life is great but on the expensive side.
Before the recession set in, there was always a good chance of landing a job if the results were in your favor. Right now not too many people are hiring and getting a job is proving to be difficult for many students. JCU does not have any placement cell and if you desire to stay on in Singapore after education you will need to find a job on your own.
