Students can come to Northern Illinois University and have fun and learn with zeal. Its a good place to study.
I had to take up GRE and TOEFL for which I prepared using Kaplan, Yahoogroups, Barrons. I also attended coaching at Vidyalankar Classes, Dadar, Mumbai. My educational counselor was Madhavi Desai, Arjun Classes. I needed a visa. The visa interview was awesome and light, not difficult; was short. After some wait I got a good deal with the airline tickets. I flew Alitalia, was really good, umm I dunno student fare, but students were allowed extra luggage. Landed at OHare Airport, its a 1.25 hrs drive to destination (university). Baggage allowed was 3 bags, with 23 Kgs per bag @ max, 1 handluggage, 1 backpack with request. Excees Baggage: 2000 Extra what I gave for 10 kgs or something. Immigration issues: Nope, nothing. Meet and Greet was by indians students associationnothing formal just Hi Hello!!

I am really happy with the program structure. The profs are good. The lecture halls are very good and huge and so is the library.
I stay in a shared apartment. We have full sports facilities. Its a bit tough to get part time jobs, but get them. Social scene in downtown Chicago, night life: andhera, the weather is snowy here. There is an Indian Student Association (isa), nothing special everything regular.
The university has carrier services only, its not very easy for international students to get jobs. There are a job fairs few. Getting the work permit is somewhat tough depends on Darryl. The alumni association is not much active (at least for engineering), din hear much.
