Engineering departments in Cornell offer two programs: Master of Engineering and Ph. D. The Master of Engineering is a one-year course intensive program, where the student is expected to credit a certain number of courses (graduate level) and complete a project, all within the span of one year. There is no financial aid available for this program, and the students are expected to pay for their tuition and living expenses. Living expenses can be managed to a certain extent by taking up jobs at the university such as grader positions, library assistants etc. This is a popular program, particularly in EE, CS and Operations Research fields; most M.Eng students I have known end up with fairly decent jobs at the end of the one-year investment.
