Its a great experience to study at UTD. UTD is ranked 63rd this year. it made a leap of almost 10 ranks. (EXCEPTIONAL) . Its awesome in Networking......http://www.utdallas.edu/news/archive/2007/0409002.html. Check this link for UTD ranking. UTD I20 - Needs gud Acads(70%+). 100+ GRE. Aid -less than 10% ppl get full Aid. But the Aid amnt is really gud.(Full tution waiver +2K per month). On campus job- Lil difficult cos of the number of indian students here. Based on luck and some effort u can still make it. Off campus- Difficult for first sem.Cos there is no gud public transportation in US. Climate is like chennai in summer. Winter is lil cold around 0 degree. On/off campus job - U can make $400-700 a month. Around 7K -tution fee/sem. 300-500$ living cost per month based on std of life. UTD CS&EE dept are really gud. Most students end up with intern frm third sem. Almost everyone frm UTD gets a g8/decent job.

Every dept has their own degree requirements(gre, toefl etc).Check out the dept homepage. If u fulfill them u will definitely get an admit. Also if u hav lesser GRE/few back logs u can always compensate with extra curricular activities(like papers, prjs etc). Also u can make out a differnece with ur industrial experience or strong recos/SOP.

Regarding Aid (TA, RA or fellowship) at University of Texas at Dallas. For people in EE, CE, TE -1) Please go through the information at department website.http://www.ee.utdallas.edu/information.html. Download the Aid information from http://www.ee.utdallas.edu/2007-EE-GradStudentRecruitment-AD.doc. All funded students are supposed to do MS with thesis (or PhD) at UTD ..details on dept website. General steps to get Aid -(a) Decide your area (e.g. VLSI, circuits, communications or signal processing). (b) Go through faculty webpages and shortlist 1-2 professors in your area, who can possibly become your advisors for MS thesis (or PhD research).(c) Email these professors (Max 1 or 2 at a time) and ask them if you can work under them and get Research Assistantship (They can only recommend you for TA or Fellowship .... but these decisions are made at department level). Your mail for (c) should be short (less that 3 para or 2000 characters) and should include Internships.

Standard of education is better compared to other universites falling in the same rankings range..another thing is that there are not many courses to choose from... couple of us had a tough time finding courses we really liked (though i am not sure this was cause of the fewer number of courses or us being too picky in selecting courses ). the courses here are pretty tough and i must say u will hardly find free time once the university starts ... if u plan on really enjoying ur masters then u better not opt for utd...You are eligible to do an intern once u complete 2 long sems(Fall and Spring) at UTD. Changing Tracks. U can choose among N/Ws, traditional,AI,SE while registering for the course after orientation. For changing to SE, u need to provide all ur bank statments and get a new I20 with ur new program (only for MS SE). For other tracks u donn need to do any paper works. U can also change it later in the subsequent semesters if u want.

The living expense: Overall u will need $300-$500 per month based on ur std of living and the number of people with whom u share ur apt. UTD campus is pretty pretty small compared to the US standards and this implies that you have only one library, only one Activity Center and one major Cafeteria. In short, the majority of the campus boils down to a single lane called (Drive A). oncampus jobs on campus jobs at utd are really tough to get . it basically comes down to being at the right place at the right time. you might get lucky and u might get a job the day u get here... or u might be unlucky like me and spend a semester or two without a job and then u might just get so vexed that u even stop trying to find a job aid most of u guys must be having the notion that getting aid in an US university must be easy...well at utd it's not.. utd is really competetive especially cause of the large number of indians and chinese students here... u would have to approach the professors here who might give u a student worker post (i.e if u r lucky) and ask u to take a couple of courses under him/her for a semester... if u manage to please him with ur work then u might end up with an RA/TA.. it's much easier for thesis students and phd students to get aid compared to non thesis masters students..Working off campus while in F1 status is illegal. U can get intern after completing 2 long sems. So for one yr u cant work off campus. But the reality is, some students work offcampus in motels, hotels etc to make bucks. It all depends on ur financial situation. Living conditions richardson is a real nice place to live ... in fact i read somewhere that it was declared the 16th best place to stay in america. lot's of indians here... in fact so many that sometimes we guys wish there were fewer indians and more foreigners. The climate here is really good compared to lot many other places... though it has been a bit chilly these days... if u plan on staying on campus (which is highly recommended) then safety should not be a concern..
