To me, the time in uni means lots of fun. I have many good teachers who have wide range of knowledge and always support students. I also have lots of friends around me, I love the time we spend together, we discuss in group work, have fun outside, we always try to keep each other smile. There are also many clubs in the uni for me to take part in, lots of fun is waiting ahead. My advice for people thinking about studying in Swinburne is to engage in as many activities as possible, class, clubs, student union…that’s not a waste of time, you will never know what those things would bring you.
It was really easy for me to get visa. I did not have to wait even 2 weeks. I advice international student to spend time on your cover letter which is sent to the embassy, try to show your desire to go to Australia for study, and of course, a clear study plan is also helpful. I was studying unilink before, so I go straight to year 2 in uni after finished that. The Swinburne staff were very helpful to guide me through paper works.
I am trying to find a scholarship for myself too, but I haven’t got any yet. I hear from my friend that I can try to finish this semester with high distinctive result, then apply for a scholarship in Swinburne, and you know what? To be considered as a successful applicant, you must be a part of social community in the uni, that’s why I say you’d better engage in those activities. For scholarships or financial assistance, you should go to Swinburne website or use the search engine to find out more about other organisation. I have ever seen the student loan in the student information centre, but I don’t know if you can get that while being an international student, just keep on seeking on the website.
I think Swinburne has a good course structure, and even the content of each unit that I have to study is really useful. I know that because before I went to Australia, I was working in a bank, so I know exactly what I need for my career later. I am required to be in class for just 12 hours a week, I think that’s quite enough for you to get new things and ask for clarifications. Most of the time you should spend on self study, I think that’s how they let you get real experience and I like it. Lecturers and tutors are very nice to students, once you’re willing to get, they’re willing to give. The uni also has support service on writing or speaking skills and maths for students.
Facilities in the uni are all in good condition and always ready for your study. I study in the Hawthorn campus and I really like it. It is located in a very good area of Melbourne, not far from the city with a park next to it, many restaurants, supermarkets, fast food are all around, train and tram to the city pass by every 5 minutes. People here are friendly, I like the way they talk to me, very outgoing and always say thank you or sorry. My accommodation is quite near the uni so that’s really convenient for me to come to class or library everyday. I take part in some clubs for fun and also be a member of the Student Union, Sri Lankan Student Association and Christian Union…
I do think that I will have a bright career prospect after having finished this degree because I was working before I came here so I have both experience and academic recognition. I intend to join the alumni because I have heard that many professionals will help you in finding or improving your career. I hope that I can find a job here because I really love the life here
