Students who want to come here prepare in a systematic way and be prepared for the cultural shock. But one thing is for sure about New York its is a very good learning ground it makes one a fittest for survival.
I did not take up GRE but I had to take up IELTS as it is required to get admission in my university for international students who dont have English as their mother tongue, but I did not go for any coaching class or anything of that kind. I consulted study group and they guided me in getting admission into the university of my interest. Obviously I needed a visa to fly to US, my visa interview was very simple and they just verified financial documents and granted visa. It was quite easy to get the tickets and Qatar airlines gave me a student fare and it was a nice experience flying with them. I did not face any immigration issues they checked my I 20 and let me in. The consultant has arranged a meet and greet service and they dropped me in my friends place.
I am granted some tuition waiver as I came through this particular consultant.
My university enables student to do well in their desired field so they keep us busy with our home works and assignments. And it really enriches our knowledge.
I am actually staying with my friends from India we have rented a house, university accommodation is very expensive. Our class rooms are well furnished and very modern but student are very few and this makes professors give individual attention to each student. Since my university is big it is very easy to get a partime job but international student are restricted to do only certain jobs. We live in New York and its pretty bad weather u cant predict the weather, we had heavy snow fall this winter and in long island ul have plenty of snow. Initially the snow will amaze you but later it will be a pain.
They say our university has a kind of placement cell but since this is my first semester here I was not interested in finding it out but I happen to see the job fair conducted in my college there were lot of institutions participating and they in fact ran short of the students. But some say there is a very little opportunity for international students as now a days they have started giving preferences to citizens rather than us. Alumni association is very active in our college and the keep posting about job opportunities by e mails and its really works good.
