The research environment was very good. My guide was very good but he should have stayed more in touch. Overall, it was a very good learning experience.
Landed at JFK airport. No Meet and Greet service. Accommodation and travel managed by students (we were a group of 15 students). One of the house owners ditched us, so 7 students didnt have a place for accommodation for the 1st week. Airport is about 1 hr from the institution via metro rail or bus service. Baggage rules : 23 * 2 Kgs Main luggage + 8 kg carry bag + Laptop. Excess baggage : allowed for a few exceeded by 2-3 kgs overall. No immigration issues at the port of entry. Fill the forms carefully once you arrive at the Airport (I-20 Form). A small mistake can significantly delay Social Security Number without which one cannot get paid
My guide was very good but he should have stayed more in touch. Research environment was very good. Overall, it was a very good learning experience. Did not have to attend any lectures. We had the full access to the Library but we did not need the particular facility. We had the access to the university sports facility i.e the Gymnasium , and the Basketball court.
Lived in apartments on rent. House renters take full advantage by robbing new students. My colleagues were robbed off 1500 USD. Look for a good accommodation via a good source. A very nice place for a short duration of time, but doesnt live upto social life standard.
