Im slowly working my way through a grad certificate of Policy and Applied Social Research. Its online with Macquarie University but Im doing it online. Thats a good thing because I live in Darwin while Macquarie University is in NSW. I finished a Politics/Communication degree a few years ago and have been working full time in the industry ever since. Ive been itching to go back to postgraduate study- slowly while I continue to work full time- and this course is perfect for me because I have an interest in Policies and social research, and also it can be studied full time or just one subject at a time, as Im currently doing.

ratingSelection process and gaining admission

I actually just applied through Open Uni, which acts as a buffer between me and the direct university. I found it much easier to apply this way, its all online so theres so huge forms to fill out and certified documents to send to the uni. However, when I graduate, that may be a different story, I think you need to send certified ID and all that stuff to Open Uni, as well as pay a fee to graduate. But thats stock standard stuff for unis I guess.

Not sure at all about scholarships, sorry. Infact I dont think that they apply to Open Uni students at all?

Been loving the study experience so far. It does take a bit to get used to, the whole online environment. But its really just the same as an in class tutorial, like you participate in discussions and things like that online. All the lecturers have been very helpful so far, very prompt to email back. There are also online tutors who are very accessible

As I mentioned, I am studying this course online, in an off campus mode so student life stuff or accommodation isnt really relevant to me. However, Macquarie University has been very supportive and well structured in their administration. I suppose if I needed any help or assistance with student type things I could ask them, but its all been good so far.

ratingJob prospects

Im hoping to move to Canberra one day and get some work there, so I think that having this qualification under my belt, when I finish, will definitely improve my chances. Besides, you can never do enough study!
