Academic advice I would say is if you are interested in doing MS, know the area of field you are interested in and join.
GRE and TOEFL are required. For Preparation I went to Krupa Coaching centre. I went for F1 Visa interview, my visa experience was normal. Getting tickets was easy, I took Air India. Experience was a bit frustrating with the cramp ness in Air India flight and delays. I didn't get any student fare. I flew from India to Chicago, where the University is located. Baggage rules were 1 cabin bag, 3*23kgs luggage's allowed, an extra luggage with special student allowance. I didn't face any immigration issues. The Indian association students picked me up from airport.
Happy, professors are highly knowledgeable; there is always a scope for improvement. Lecture Halls are very big. Library is too good with many books and online content. As it's a MS program, TA/RA are hard to get them.
I'm staying in off-campus apartment. Sports facilities are there with a sports center. No violence, but always need to be careful. Night life is pleasant. Weather is cool. Indian association has specific set of events which provide entertainment for international students so it's fun.
There is placement cell in this University. Jobs are time taking to get. There is campus placement process in place. Almost all the organizations around the university attend these placement process events. Work permit process is a bit rules regulated and so should be closely checked. There is no alumni society as such I know.
