Classes in the morning, basketball till night. Lifestyle there is great if you're a sports lover. Plus, we get occassional concerts in the Carrier Dome where NCAA Matches are held as well. Just recently in May 2008, Fergie and Sean Kingston held a concert. Be alert and ask questions because you're definately gonna feel real lost and out of place during your first week. Locals are really friendly provided you speak understandable English so it's all good.
Being awarded a place wasn't that difficult. All you need is a decent CGPA. But it all depends, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is ranked no.1 nationally so getting into that school requires a much higher CGPA. My visa experience was rather interesting, I paid for fees and booked my appointment online but I forgot to bring my transcript during the appointment and had to rush home to get it before the embassy closed. Info on required docs can be obtained from the embassy website.
I am sponsored by my parents but partial scholarships like a USD 3,000 per semester are pretty common place. Full scholarships are usually reserved for American students. It's a little pricy but I feel like I'm getting the money's worth.
Professors and the tutors I've met so far have all been splendid. They were always available if I had any questions. I could even send them e-mails to ask them about materials that I didn't understand and they always replied promptly. Classes are amazing because of the really old and beautiful buildings like the College of Arts & Sciences which is the trademark to me of the university and you don't feel that time passes by slow.
My life there is so enjoyable to an extend that I rarely feel homesick. There are frat parties almost daily that I don't attend because I don't drink but I do see a lot of students letting off steam and just having a good time. I enjoy a mall with a cinema and all that's only a 20 minute complimentary bus ride away on weekends and basketball on weekdays. I also enjoyed just chilling out in front of the television watching comedy central with my roomates.
Syracuse University was established since 1870 if i'm not mistaken and has a long list of notable alumni that you can get from wikipedia. So I figure the job prospects are pretty darn decent. There is an alumni association as well and some of the alumni visit the university once in awhile giving short speeches to students about their life after university and that's interesting to listen to.
