The university is really nice and the teachers/professors/lecturers and other students are really friendly and helpful. The most important advice I can give is to talk to as many people as possible, don't expect them to talk to you.
The process was not difficult. My home university has a relationship with the University of Newcastle so it was already mapped out what I had to do. There was a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 and I had to write an essay and get two letters of recommendation from professors or work employers. Obtaining a VISA for Australia was a really simply process. My advise is to make sure you have everything done early in case there are any problems. This way you still have time to fix them before leaving.
I was not able to receive any scholarships, but there are many scholarships and loans that can be applied for. Check your home university for scholarships and government grants.
The classes are good, I only have class three days a week, but professors/lecturers are always willing to help outside of class time. It depends week to week how much I spend on school work, but roughly it is about fifteen hours outside of class each week. The classes are really nice because they are really laid back and everyone joins in the discussions.
Newcastle is a really nice city. It has three amazing beaches that are good for swimming, surfing, and other activities. There is a good nightlife with many bars and dance clubs. There are lots of opportunities to find part time work in the city or on campus.
I think that my studying abroad increased my job prospects because it shows that I can be thrown into a different culture and different type of school and succeed. I also received a minor in International Studies and having actually studied in another country shows my appreciation for other cultures.
