The place philly rocks and for indian veggies you need not worry. There are a couple of indian stores where you get mtr instant foods and also there are two indian restaurants. But self cooking is preferable(which i dont do!). Off campus stay is preffered for those who enjoy the company of being with friends all the time where as on campus is advised for those who prefer their privacy for studies. The University is filled with lots of opportunities. The labs are extremely good. Its a vast campus. Its easy to get lost in the SEAS building itself.

ratingSelection process and gaining admission

The actual admission process cannot be described by any one. Not even by private study abroad councellors like princeton review or kaplan. You just have to apply with all the necessary stuff and wait(for those who practice a religion pray god). I had been to one of these councellors (better not tell which councellor) they said i would not get into upenn. But i did. I had a GRE of 1180 with 800 in math and a 105 in toefl. My academics were good(only to get in). The visa part will not be an issue until you have proper funding documents with you like bank statements and ca statements. The travel was really good. My only advise is that apply to universities which you have in mind and wait. Donot believe in the minimum gre and toefl cutoffs there are no such things even though the university website says so.

At penn a scholarship is no no(i dunno about other departments at penn). On campus jobs yes yes. There are plenty of jobs on campus where in they will be paying like 9$ an hour and 20 hrs/week.

ratingYour study experience

I am specializing in embedded systems. There is a program specially designed for embedded systems. So those who are willing to take up ES please go ahead and apply to penn. you will be getting hands on experience. The education system here rules. Professors dont care how you come to class(unlike india) what they want is you learning the concepts. The grading is in their hands. So youll have to impress them not by "acting" polite but by serious work and an active participation in class. Even participation in class counts toward your grading.

Now and then I keep going to star bucks and keep having coffee. philly is a nice place. As I said earlier no worry for food. The text books are costly. You might wanna consider contacting the profs and geting the texts before coming here. The place is close to New Jersey, New York and washington. Also there will be a lotta free parties and stuff. But youll have time for none as the course will have lotta assignments and stuff

Once you graduate from penn you dont have to worry about jobs.
