I have always wanted a tenure-track academic position in Computer Science/Engineering at a dynamic research- and teaching- institution. The facilities and the research carried out at the University of Illinois (Urbana Champaign) were similar to my field of interest and background. I completed my PhD at the university.
I had already completed Masters in Computer Science at the university and so enrolling for a PhD there did not pose any issues for me.
I was awarded Teaching Assistantship for ECE 542 at UIUC (Jan to May 2006).
My academic interests are in the fields of Dependable System Design, Compilers & Runtime Systems, Reconfigurable computing and Formal Verification. Under the guidance of my advisor, Prof. Ravishankar Iyer, I was able to progress well and completed my PhD successfully. My Dissertation was titled Automated Derivation of Application-aware Error and Attack Detectors. I also had a lot of opportunity to publish extensively here.
The US is a land of opportunities. Even when I was engaged in my PhD, I found ample opportunities to do various projects that enhanced my own work in more ways than one. I was a Research assistant at the Coordinated Science Laboratory and developed the notion of application-aware checking as part of my PhD research. I enrolled as a Summer Intern at Microsoft Research in the Software Design and Implementation group. A year later I had the opportunity to work as a Consulting Researcher there. I also did Summer Internship programs at IBM Research T J Watson and at Los Alamos National Labs.
