I had just finished my undergraduate studies in Life Sciences at Mumbai University, India, and I was keen to work in the field of biomedical research and academia. The Faculty of Biomedical and Life sciences at the University of Glasgow was one of the few institutes that offered the MRes course.
The course was unique in offering plenty stepping stone to a career in research. I specialised in cell engineering by completing both my masters projects at the Centre for Cell Engineering. I managed to score a distinction on the MRes course and published four research papers from my masters projects. This was a proud moment for me and the Department.
This was a wonderful place to study and the people were friendly and supportive. I was nervous about living in a foreign land with different cultures, but when I came to this department I was made very welcome and it felt like a home away from home.
