My advice to future students is to get good grades in your program.
I had to write GRE for gaining an admission to the university. Prepared using Barrons + Princeton Review Books. No coaching classes attended and no counselors. The visa interview experience was pleasant and simple. Its easy to get tickets to destination. Airline KLM or American Airlines both good with no student fare. I landed at Chicago OHare airport it is an hour away from destination. I was allowed 2 checked in bags, I am not aware of excess baggage allowance. No immigration issues faced. No meet and greet service.
Research and teaching assistantships are offered.
I am happy with program, the professors are good.
Living in a graduate student dorm, university accommodation. It is a reasonable living space, though the rooms are very small. We have good lecture halls + library + sports facilities. I think it is possible for international students to get part time jobs. Social scene in Chicago is very good as is the night life. The weather consists of a very harsh winter. There is an international students society, I am not sure of their events.
There is a placement cell at the university. Ease of job depends on economy and type of job. Not sure about campus placement + work permit. There is an active alumni network. Not sure of alumni help with placements.
Located in Illinois.
