The overall experience of the college is great, Johns Hopkins University is a world class university with High academic standing. The course content couldn't be bettered, but some of the policies aren't International student friendly like the Tuition waiver and scholarships. The university's main campus is located in the city of Baltimore MD, which has a high rate of crime, but university has taken appropriate measures to provide safety to its student. Also there is a rare chance that graduate student gets university provided accommodation.
The admission to my MS Biotech Program is not difficult but the future students should have a decent (3.5 +) GPA on the scale of 4. Two mandatory requirements for JHU AAP is the TOEFL and WES evaluated GPA. Since it's a part time course but International students are enrolled on a full time status. For the Visa since its JHU, visa people do not generally question a lot but sometimes since its Biotech program with Molecular Biology and Genetics courses, so that can get students a pink slip, but ultimately everything works out fine. For the travel experience, BWI is the nearest airport and the transport system is fine. Overall I had no problems traveling alone for the first time and that too on an international destination.
There is no scholarship for international students but the fee is very less compared to programs in this league.
Mine is a MS Biotechnology program. The best part is the flexibility of taking any course and also choosing a concentration like Molecular targets & Drug Discovery, Bioinformatics, Biodefense, Regulatory Affairs or mixed. Lecturers and tutors are really good with awesome knowledge. Getting a Hopkins Biotech degree in that amount is value for money plus most of the students get jobs as RAs with decent salaries to manage their monthly living expenses. For this Program JHU doesn't need a GRE score.
The university's facilities are good but the library could have been better. The main campus is in Baltimore MD which is a nice city and is very close to DC, NYC and Philadelphia. The majority population is of Afro Americans who are quite friendly. The city has a good number of Indian restaurants and has all the spots that every city dweller wants. The accommodation near the university is expensive for a studio apartment costing $600 p.mo. Almost every student gets a part time job on campus to manage the living expenses. The university has many clubs and association with focus on Indian student and student from South Asia like Indian Graduate Student Association. These organizations organize and involve many students in fun events and cultural events periodically.
There is a campus recruitment office to guides students but mostly student look for placements on their own. The Hopkins Biotech Network is a great resource too.
Located in Maryland and District Of Columbia.
