About Unitec

Unitec Institute of Technology is New Zealand’s largest Institute of Technology, with more than 20,000 students. Our students get the opportunity to study in a vibrant multi-cultural environment. Unitec’s applied teaching and learning style equips these students to achieve their very best and also ensures that they are able to develop transferrable knowledge and skills that can be applied directly in the work place. We strive to help students every step of the way - with applications, visas and study options.

Why Unitec?

Our advantage globally is that New Zealand is a welcoming and growing economy.  We celebrate diversity and New Zealand has recently been listed as one of the best places in the world to live (according to the Legatum Prosperity Index). Unitec doesn’t just stay in touch with the real world – it is the real world. Our teaching style teaches you how to take charge of your own studies, through accessing course materials and building knowledge through your own research

Some of the advantages of studying at Unitec are:

Hands on Learning

Work experience, industry placements and hands on practice at our campus are part of the curriculum. We make sure you graduate with the professional and vocational skills that employers need in New Zealand and overseas.

Lots of Support

Unitec students come from many different backgrounds and there are lots of services to help you settle in and succeed. We offer international student services, provide pastoral care and create a support network for you academically and socially.

Life on Campus

Barbeques, sports tournaments, art exhibitions and more - there’s always something happening on campus.

Accommodation

If you need a place to live while you study, there are lots of options nearby. You can rent a room off-campus, live with a homestay family or stay at Unitec’s on-campus residential accommodation.

Student Support

Students don’t have to worry about managing their workload or making friends. There are lots of services on offer to make your student life easier.

The Unitec Difference

Our staff are not just academics, they are real world experts who have built careers based on their expertise and knowledge. Through the combination of applied learning frameworks, industry partnerships and high quality education, Unitec students have access to a unique understanding of the working environment.

Work While You Study

Students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and 40 hours during vacations. Unitec’s Career Centre offers career consultancy to help our students find part time or full time work.

Opportunity to Settle Permanently in NZ

International students may be allowed to work and eventually gain residency depending on what you study and the study duration as long as you satisfy a few immigration criteria.

Fun environment!

Unitec is a fun place to study! The lecturers in this field are not very good so most classes have same information taught over and over in different ways in each class. Classes are long. One class will take up five hours of the day! Unitec took three months to complete my application so gave one star. read full review

Unitec is a fun place to study! The lecturers in this field are not very good so most classes have same information taught over and over in different ways in each class. Classes are long. One class will take up five hours of the day! Unitec took three months to complete my application so gave one star. But because unitec is low ranking, easy to get high grades. I got a job straight away because loads of work in this field. Very stressful job though working with difficult issues so probably won't last long. Thanks. show less
