Thirty-eight research centres and institutes provide a robust framework for focused research, while the University's commitment to its areas of strategic investment underpins its aspirations for world-leading research outcomes.

Graduate Research School

Griffith Graduate Research School (GGRS) is responsible for the administration of international research higher degree students through the provision of high-quality research programs, research training, research scholarships and thesis examination. It also monitors the quality of support services necessary for research of an international standard and works with University elements to plan improvements in these services consistent with the University’s objectives as a research institution.

Research and teaching strengths

The University includes Queensland's oldest art institution, Queensland College of Art, and one of Australia's leading music schools, Queensland Conservatorium.

Griffith is a member of the Innovative Research Universities Australia and focuses research efforts in areas of strategic importance to Queensland, to Australia and globally. The University hosts the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security and the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility.

Griffith’s research experts work in over 30 research centres developing new knowledge in the areas of medicine and healthcare, emerging technologies, social innovations, culture, learning and the arts, the environment, and governance and policy development.

Research Funding

The University's success in attracting research funding is an acknowledgement that Griffith's vision is shared and appreciated by many others. Highlights over the past two years include:

• $10 million over five years for the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility
• $22 million for the National Centre for Adult Stem Cell Research
• $14 million for the Smart Water Research Facility
• More than $15 million for the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security
• $1.3 million from the Queensland Government for the Eskitis Institute for Cell and Molecular Therapies
