James Cook University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs through its four faculties:

Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences has a broad charter and brings together disciplines and professions from the humanities and social sciences.  Students in this diverse Faculty gain important academic and life skills.  The Faculty is represented by three schools:

The Faculty offers a vibrant learning environment for staff and students from diverse cultural, demographic and learning backgrounds to excel in their chosen undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The Faculty actively pursues research in its designated area of strength ‘People, Identity and Place,’ which examines social, cultural and political issues that apply to individuals, communities and regions, particularly the tropics.


Faculty of Law, Business & Creative Arts

Students enrolling in the Faculty of Law, Business & Creative Arts are presented with a number of programs which develop career opportunities in: the creative industries and new media arts, law, business, accounting and finance, information technology, tourism management, sports and event management and the hospitality industry. A diverse range of disciplines if offered through the Faculty, which comprises the following schools:

The Faculty offers internationally recognized undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that focus on professional relevance and practical application. The degrees provide students with opportunities to ideate on contemporary issues, latest research and new innovative thoughts.


Faculty of Medicine, Health & Molecular Sciences

The Faculty of Medicine, Health & Molecular Sciences offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees for medical and health professionals and veterinary, biomedical and molecular scientists.  The health sciences are one of the fastest growing areas of employment in Australia. Professional degrees offered at JCU include medicine, dentistry, medical laboratory science, nursing, occupational therapy, veterinary science, pharmacy, physiotherapy, speech pathology and sport and exercise science.  The Faculty delivers courses through the following schools and centers:


Faculty of Science & Engineering

The Faculty of Science & Engineering is world renowned for its expertise, facilities and research successes.  JCU is uniquely located for the study of science and the environment. The Cairns and Townsville campuses enjoy easy access to two World Heritage Areas: the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient rainforests of the Wet Tropics – as well as dry tropic environments, savannas and wetlands.  The Faculty is organized into three multidisciplinary schools:

The Faculty is consistently ranked in the top three in the world in its fields of research strength in ecology and environment, plant and animal science and geosciences. JCU is also ranked first in the world for citation in the field of coral reef ecology.
