Entry Requirements

Undergraduate programs

JCU provides a guide to minimum academic entry requirements for Bachelor degrees. Some specialist degrees have a higher entry level. Students can check the country-specific entry requirements set by the University.

The University also provides a list of other undergraduate entry requirements.

Postgraduate programs

  • Coursework: Students applying for postgraduate (coursework) should have successfully completed a degree that is equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree. Some postgraduate degrees have additional requirements that may include work experience or high academic achievement.
  • Postgraduate Qualifying Program – Business: The Postgraduate Qualifying Program is aimed at preparing the students for entry to JCU’s postgraduate coursework degrees in Business, Accounting and Tourism. The program is designed for students whose academic qualifications are marginally below the standard entry requirements.
  • Research: The minimum requirement for entry to Doctoral (PhD) or Masters (Research) programs is the international equivalent degree for four-year Australian Bachelor degree with Honours in an appropriate discipline or an Australian Masters (Coursework) degree with at least a 50% research component.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate their English language proficiency by taking up IELTS or TOEFL tests. Other English language tests may be accepted as proof of English language proficiency. The University provides information on the English Language Requirements.

Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time study in which the language of instruction was English may satisfy the English requirement. Students who successfully complete an English language course packaged with a JCU degree at JCU’s English Language Centre or approved pathway provider can gain direct entry to most JCU degrees.
