Overview
The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), is an Australian university located in the heart of one of the world’s most diverse cities. It encourages learning in an international context and provides higher education to more than 30,000 students, including over 7,500 international students from more than 115 countries.
Established in 1988, UTS has rapidly built an international reputation for excellence in career-oriented teaching and practical research, ranking among the top 500 universities in the 2011 Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking of World universities and 268 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings (2011). As one of Australia’s largest and most respected universities, UTS attracts students from all over the world.
The University embraces an international focus, fostering worldwide student exchanges and partnerships with more than 200 universities in 37 countries. With a multicultural mix of students from 115 countries, UTS offers a cosmopolitan student life. Its two campuses are City and Kuring-gai, with the city campus conveniently located in the city centre and easily accessible by public transport. All of Sydney’s main attractions are within walking distance or an easy bus or train ride away. Kuring-gai campus is north of the Central Business District and is accessible by train or by regular shuttle bus from the city campus.
As a key member of the Australian Technology Network (ATN), an influential coalition of five leading Australian universities, UTS is committed to the education of industry-ready and highly employable graduates. Its focus lies on providing practice-oriented education with strong industry links, a growing research reputation and a strong commitment to internationalisation.

UTS was internationally recognised for its excellence in research in the 2011 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) national report, benchmarking 80 per cent of UTS research at world standard or above. Based on the Report, UTS has been calculated to rank 13th among the Australian universities and was placedahead of the national average in more than half the fields of research undertaken by the University.
