Being close to some big cities means you have the best of both worlds, as it were, and you get to live on a beautiful campus within a close-knit community where there is good support whenever you need it.
I have studied in an English medium school from kindergarten, so have had the language as a joint mother tongue and fell in love with it before I could even read properly. I have found everyone here to be friendly, hospitable and interested in getting to know a different culture. At no point have I felt like an outsider.
The creative writing department might be small, but I have never lacked guidance, support or advice whenever I have needed it and everyone is very approachable. Because I was born and brought up in Mumbai, I definitely do miss the big city life with all its noise and buzz, but Liverpool, Manchester and Southport are close by and the public transport here is really good.
One of the main differences between the UK and India is the education system itself. In India, the students' individual thoughts and analytical processes are often squashed; whereas over here you are expected to have a mind of your own, be analytical, critical and creative in class, in the assignments and your coursework. I'm concentrating on my final year at the moment, but want to do a masters in creative writing and am seriously considering staying at Edge Hill to do it.
