About RAC
Established in 1845, the Royal Agricultural College (RAC) is one of the most forward-looking institutions offering the latest in teaching and research. The College was the first agricultural college to be founded in the English speaking world. Rooted strongly in history and tradition, the Royal Agricultural College has grown into a confident community offering the latest in teaching and research.
HM Queen Victoria granted the Royal Charter to the College in 1845. Sovereigns have been Patrons ever since, visiting the College in every reign. HRH the Prince of Wales became President in 1984.
Often referred to as the ‘Oxbridge of the Countryside’, the College is located on the historic campus in Cotswold countryside in Cirencester. The College offers a stimulating, unique learning environment for students and provides outstanding, state-of-the-art facilities. In 2009, there were 1000 students from 47 different countries studying at RAC.
The College offers over 40 career-focused programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students which enable them to achieve their future goals in agriculture, land, food business, equine and property industries. The courses combine academic excellence with practical orientation.
The College has strong industry links and boasts of an impressive graduate employment rate. In 2008, the College recorded 73 per cent undergraduate placements and 91 per cent postgraduate placements.
The College takes pride in being a LEAF Innovation Centre. Research and demonstration projects involving external organizations and funding are a continual part of the College farms’ business and educational programme.
