Overview
The University of Kent, the UK’s European University, is one of the UK’s most dynamic universities. It has campuses and centres in Canterbury, Medway, Paris, Brussels and Athens and is a major educational, economic and cultural force throughout the region.
In the UK government’s Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), each of Kent’s eighteen academic schools were judged to produce world leading and internationally recognized research. This research informs teaching on all courses at Kent, ensuring that every student benefits from advanced and groundbreaking learning.
The University was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for the work of its Kent Law Clinic. According to recent Sunday Times University Guides, Kent ‘can claim to be Britain’s only international university’ and is ‘in the top 20 for high starting salaries’.
The international outlook of the institution adds to the cosmopolitan nature of the Kent experience. Excellence in teaching, variety in extra-curricular activities, and course related internship/work experience are well established. These opportunities contribute to Kent’s excellent graduate employability record, making Kent’s graduates amongst the highest earners for graduate starting salaries.
The Kent experience is unique in higher education, and students consistently vote Kent one of the top universities in the UK in National Student Satisfaction Surveys. At the centre of this experience is the dedication of teachers at Kent. For three years running, National Teaching Fellowships have been awarded to Kent academics in recognition of their outstanding work.
The University of Kent has centres of specialist education in both Brussels (international relations, economics and law) and Paris (art, literature, film and culture). It awards a number of joint degrees and enjoys over 100 partnerships with international institutions.
Students and campuses
The University of Kent currently has 19,665 students studying at Canterbury, Medway, Brussels, Paris and Athens. Of these, 14,030 are full-time undergraduate students; 1,860 are full-time postgraduate students; 2,795 are part-time undergraduate students and 980 are part-time postgraduate students. The University has a female to male ratio of 53:47 and 22% of the student body are from overseas with representatives from over 125 countries.
