Facilities
We aim to provide a state-of-the-art academically stimulating environment which is secure, friendly and fun.
The Information Commons is a modern £23 million development. It offers you a range of study experiences, with fully integrated access to the printed and electronic information sources you’ll need, in the same place at the same time. It is designed to suit both group and individual study and to cater for each student’s study style. Equipped with the latest IT resources – including full wireless access to the University network and the web – it features an array of innovative spaces for teaching, learning and study, with over 500 computers and 100,000 of the most in-demand books and periodicals.
Complementing the Information Commons, the University Library is a learning hub for all our students, with access to 1.3 million books and journals and over 2,000 study places. Library services are available online, via the campus network, and opening hours extend at times when you need to use the library more.
You will get a University email account, secure server space and free access to the internet and software applications. There are staffed and unstaffed computing facilities across the campus and in the Student Village. Many areas on campus support wireless networking giving you the flexibility to access the resources you need whenever and wherever you need them.
The English Language Teaching Centre is accredited by the British Council. The Centre offers a free writing advisory service to help with written work. It also runs an intensive Academic English Preparatory Course and an International Summer School.
The University's sports facilities include a swimming pool, fitness centre, indoor and racquet sports facilities, outdoor sports pitches and tennis courts. The Students' Union provides a range of services including a day nursery and play-schemes during school holidays.
The University has a number of Chaplains representing major world faiths. Christian chaplains organise joint worship and activities. Prayer rooms are available across the campus for Muslim students. Jewish Chaplains are also available. The Chaplaincy Service also provides information about other faith communities.
The University Health Service offers a comprehensive general medical practice in a purpose-built, award-winning new centre on campus. Our counselling service can help with stress, anxiety, personal difficulties and challenges.
