The University of Sheffield is one of the UK´s leading and largest universities, with nearly 25,000 students from 125 countries. The University of Sheffield was founded in 1905. A member of the Russell Group, we have a reputation for world-class teaching and research excellence. You can study a wide range of subjects, including business and information management, law, architecture, engineering, science, medicine and dentistry.

We are in the world's top 100 and UK's top 10 universities according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University's ranking of the top 500 universities worldwide. Our University has produced five Nobel Prize-winners in Medicine and Chemistry. We have been named Times Higher University of the Year in 2011. We are ranked 2nd in the UK (1st amongst the Russell Group) in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2011. Our Students’ Union has been voted number one in the UK.

Sheffield is one of the most popular cities for students in the UK. It's England's fourth largest city. It is a friendly, safe and affordable place to live. The city is located in the centre of the UK. It has good transport links and is close to the Peak District countryside. Our University campus is a mixture of the traditional and modern. It stretches from the city centre towards Sheffield's green suburbs.

Academic Strengths

As a result, the latest developments in each discipline inform our teaching. The University is in the UK’s top 10 for research power, according to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Forty-one of the University's 49 submissions had 50 per cent or more of their work assessed at the top grades of 4* and 3*.

We're in the world's top 100 and UK's top 10 universities according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University's ranking of the top 500 universities worldwide.

The 2010 National Student Survey ranked Sheffield fourth in the Russell Group for its excellent student learning experience. Six departments, spanning all of our faculties, were rated top in the UK for student satisfaction in the 2009 survey.

We work in partnership with other leading universities, governments and multinational companies to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the world today. We have won our fourth Queen's Anniversary Prize for our Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing. This is a prime example of our strong relationships with global organisations. Our reputation for world-class research attracts multinational companies like Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Messier-Dowty and BAe Systems. They invest millions of pounds in collaboration with our University.
