Fees & Entry Requirements

Tuition fees for international students

Tuition fees fall into four main bands depending on the type of course. The fees for 2012 - 2013 are as follows:

  • Arts, Law, Social Science, Town and Regional Planning: £12,160
  • MBA: £20,000
  • Archaeology and Prehistory, Architecture, East Asian Studies, Geography, Information School, Journalism, Landscape, Music, Maths: £13,990
  • Science, Engineering, Non-clinical Medicine and Dentistry: £15,850
  • Clinical years of Medicine (last 3 years) & Dentistry (last 4 years Clinical): £28,650

Students should note that there are some departmental exceptions.

Study Abroad Programme Tuition Fees
Full Academic Year: £8,900
One Semester (September - January/February - June): £5,250

Students from the EU are eligible to pay the same fee as UK students. For more information on tuition fees, please click here .

We recommend that students have approximately £600 per month to cover all costs, including accommodation.

Entry Requirements
The University of Sheffield is one of the highest-ranked UK universities and our entry requirements reflect this. We have experience and understanding of a wide range of international qualifications. You can find specific information and advice for your country on our University's web pages.

Demand for places on many of the University's courses is high and it is therefore advisable to apply as early as possible.

All students wishing to study at the University of Sheffield must show that their English language is at a level that allows them to follow their chosen course of study. In addition to the IELTS and TOEFL tests, the University accepts a wide range of English language qualifications and further details can be found on the web pages. Acceptable minimum scores are shown below but some departments request a higher minimum level due to the nature of their subject areas. Applicants should therefore aim for scores of  6.5 in IELTS and 91 in TOEFL iBT.


Minimum requirements
International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): Average of 6.0 or above with at least 5.5 in each component.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT: 87 or above, with at least 21 in Listening, 21 in Writing, 22 in Reading and 23 in Speaking.
The English Language Teaching Centre runs pre-sessional English language and study skills courses every year between July and September. Please see our website for further details.
