International students

The University of Surrey has a long history of welcoming international students from all around the world, and is part of a strong global partnership network of prestigious academic institutions. It currently has over 140 different nationalities represented among its staff and students, and prides itself on the quality of education and support it provides for international students.

The International Student Office helps support international students before, during and after their time at Surrey. Events and services offered by the International Student Office include assistance and counselling during the application process, visa and immigration advice, and an International Orientation programme before the start of semester to help new international students to settle in.  Arriving in a different country for the first time can be stressful and tiring, so the International Student Office also arrange an Airport pick up service across four designated dates at Heathrow and Gatwick airports where the team meet and greet the newly arriving students, to help make the arrival process as pleasant and easy as possible.

International Study Centre: The International Study Centre (ISC) offers international students a direct path to undergraduate study for international students who have completed high school.  The International Foundation year at Surrey has two routes that combine academic modules, study skills and English language training, and lead to most of Surrey’s undergraduate degrees.

English Language Programmes: The Department of Languages and Translation Studies provides expert academic English training and support for students throughout the year.  The Surrey pre-sessional 5 and 10 week summer programmes prepare students for successful future studies, and longer preparation courses are also available for students that wish to study up to a year of English language.  During the degree there is also in-sessional English language support programmes, offering students free classes on academic skills and dissertation writing.

Part-time Work: All international full-time students who have a valid student visa are allowed to work in a temporary job up to 20 hours per week during semester time and any number of hours during University vacations.
