Overview
The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (UB) is a premier, research-intensive public university dedicated to academic excellence. UB is a flagship institution in the State University of New York system. The University is the largest and most comprehensive campus in the 64-campus SUNY system and is a member of the Association of American Universities.

History
The University at Buffalo was founded in 1846 as a private medical college. The College merged with the State University of New York system in 1962.
Programs
Academic programs offered by UB include more than 100 undergraduate courses (including combined degrees), 190 masters’ degrees, 83 doctoral degrees and four professional degrees through its schools and colleges.
International Students
The University is home to over 28,000 students of which international students form a significant population. There are over 208,000 international alumni of UB in 130 countries.
Research
A research-intensive institution that it is, UB’s advanced research spans across a broad range of disciplines and fosters a better quality of life on local, regional, national, and global levels. The University makes high annual investments on research to seek knowledge that leads to new cures, improved processes, stronger materials, faster computers, smarter software, smaller machines and other improvements to life.
The University’s strength in medicine, engineering, and computer science enables conducting multidisciplinary research and providing education at a level of excellence that only a few universities can match. UB’s faculty members have a strong research orientation and have established an outstanding record of research, scholarship and creative activity.
